Community Nurses

The district nurses perform most of their work in patients' homes, tending to people who are housebound or too ill to leave their homes. Their work involves general nursing duties such as giving injections and dressing wounds as well as assessing and providing more complex nursing needs for more seriously ill patients.

Health Visitors

Health visitors are employed by the NHS Community Trust. They work mainly with the well population and are concerned with the family as well as individuals within the family. A large part of the health visitors time is spent monitoring the growth, development and social and physical health of children under 5 years, and their families. They undertake Well Baby Clinics, Health Promotion and Child Protection work and vaccinations. They are especially involved with breast feeding mothers, isolated and unsupported mothers and mothers with postnatal depression.
